SJFPG Engages with UK Government on Ukrainian GCSE and Language Accreditation
Aliona Hlivco, Founder and CEO of the St. James’s Foreign Policy Group, recently met with Schools Minister Rt Hon Georgia Gould MP and officials at the Department for Education, alongside Inna Hryhorovych MBE and Joe Powell MP, to discuss the urgent introduction of a Ukrainian GCSE and the formal accreditation of Ukrainian language qualification exams in the UK.
The discussion focused on the educational and psychological needs of Ukrainian children displaced by Russia’s war, underscoring the importance of ensuring continuity in learning while safeguarding cultural and linguistic identity. Establishing recognised qualifications would not only support academic progression but also strengthen resilience among young people navigating the trauma of conflict and displacement.
The meeting reflects growing momentum behind efforts to integrate Ukrainian studies into the British education framework and to provide long-term support for affected families.
SJFPG welcomes the UK government’s continued commitment to standing with Ukraine and advancing practical initiatives that support Ukrainian children and their future.
