Aliona Hlivco Publishes Analysis on Europe’s Security and Ukraine’s Defence Innovation
Aliona Hlivco, Founder and CEO of the St. James’s Foreign Policy Group, has published a new analysis with the Wilfried Martens Centre examining how Ukraine’s technological advances are reshaping Europe’s security future.
In the article, Hlivco argues that Ukraine’s defence industry has become “one of the most innovative and dynamic in the world,” driven by wartime necessity and rapid technological adaptation. Since 2022, the country’s defence technology sector has expanded by 218%, with revenues projected to reach €4 billion in 2025.
She highlights Ukraine’s leadership in autonomous warfare — including aerial, naval and ground drones — as well as its growing capabilities in artificial intelligence, which support complex operations and enhance battlefield decision-making.
The analysis underscores that Ukraine is fighting not only for its survival but also for Europe’s security, particularly as uncertainty grows around the long-term US security umbrella. Hlivco calls for deeper EU–Ukraine defence cooperation, greater investment in Ukraine’s industrial base, and faster implementation of joint initiatives to strengthen Europe’s strategic resilience.
Her contribution reinforces the importance of integrating Ukraine’s combat-tested expertise and innovation into emerging European security structures, positioning the country as a central pillar of the continent’s future defence architecture.
